History: The National Research Centre (NRC) is
the largest multidisciplinary R&D Center in Egypt devoted to
basic applied research within the major fields of interest. It
is the largest of all institutions affiliated to the Ministry
of Scientific research and employs about 4057 research staff
within 13 research divisions and 104 departments covering the
following fields: Medical Sciences, Genetic Engineering, Human
genetics, Biology, Veterinary, Food and Nutrition,
Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic
Chemistry, Mineral Resources, Engineering, Renewable Energies,
Agriculture, Textile, Environmental Sciences, Physics, and New
Materials.
It was established as an independent public organization at
1956, with the aim "to foster basic and applied scientific
research particularly in public health, industry, agriculture
and other sectors of national economy". Between the sixties
and eighties 6 divisions of NRC developed into independent
research institutes: The National Institute of Standards,
Petroleum Research Institute, Central Metallurgical Research
and Development Institute, Theodore Bilharz Research
Institute, Ophthalmology Research Institute, and Electronics
Research Institute.
Since its establishment, the NRC has evolved through 3
distinct stages. The initial stage extending from 1956 to
1968, focused on man power development and building research
capacity in basic sciences. The second stage (1968-1973) was
characterized by a growing interaction with the national
production and services sectors. The third stage (1973 till
now) concentrated on customer oriented research serving
specific needs of end users.
Now, NRC is headed by Prof. Dr. Hani El-Nazer; a
president with ministerial status, assisted by two vice
presidents, one for research and the other for technical
affairs. The minister of state for Scientific Research is the
higher president of NRC.
Mission: The NRC mission is to conduct basic and
applied research within the major fields of interest in order
to develop production and services sectors. The NRC has to
correspond to the country’s key production and services
sectors through the research conducted in different areas of
science, technology, scientific consultation and training as
well. In order to implement its mission, NRC sets the
following objectives:
-
Conduct research in different fields of natural sciences and
advanced technologies to serve the national economy and
developmental plans.
-
Undertake activities aiming at technology innovation to help
the society attaining technological self- reliance.
-
Provide services and scientific technological consultations
to economic units to solve their problems and develop their
production.
-
Assist in transfer, absorption, adaptation and development
of foreign technology.
-
Train young researchers in various scientific fields as a
basis for balanced growth of national technological
capabilities.
-
Contribute to the national efforts for upgrading of science
and dissemination of knowledge.
-
Strengthen scientific linkages and cooperation through

About Reproductive Health & Family
Planning Research Department (RHFPRD) |
Reproductive Health & Family Planning Research Department (RHFPRD)
was founded in 2006. The department is headed by Prof. Dr. Osama
Azmy.
National Mission; we are working to serve Egyptian
community through research, education, and services in
reproductive health and family planning fields. Such national
goals and objectives are achieved with cooperation of a wide
variety of partners including governmental and nongovernmental
organizations, research institutions, community groups, and
the private sector. Through our global view and local action
we help Egyptian community to:
-
Improve the quality of reproductive health
services, especially safe, effective, and affordable family
planning methods
-
Improve women health, especially those who live in
resource-constrained settings.
-
Conduct research that helps prevent
spread of female genital malignancies and sexually
transmitted infections and care for those affected by them.
International Mission; we are working to share the
international experience in reproductive health and family
planning fields. Such international goals and objectives are
achieved through a group of bilateral and multilateral
cooperation protocols with the related international
organizations. In order to foster the scientific interaction
and exchange of scientists, studies and researches on the
international level, we promoted a newly designed
international program IRIS (International Research
and Innovative Studies Program) that creates true
international chances for reproductive health and family
planning scientists and organizations to share the most
cutting-edge researches and studies recently done in Egypt and
abroad.
